Sonia Albanese is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, specialized in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. She received her
training both in General Surgery and Cardiac Surgery in Italy from the University of Bologna, Alma Mater.
From 1984 to 1985 she was Clinical Assistant in General Surgery at the Centre Paul Lamarque, Montpellier,
France under Prof. H. Pujol. She had her training in Congenital Cardiac Surgery with Dr Lucio Zannini at the
Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna, Italy and Dr Carlo Marcelletti, at the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital
IRCCS in Rome, Italy. She was Clinical Assistant in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Hôpital Laennec, Paris,
France under Prof. P.R. Vouhè in 1991-1992 and spent training periods with Dr. Frank Hanley at the
University of California of San Francisco, U.S.A in 1996 and with Prof. G. El Khoury at the Hôpital Saint Luc,
Bruxelles, Belgium in 2006. Since 2017 Dr. Albanese is Director of the Unit of Arrhytmia Surgery of the
Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital IRCCS in Rome, Italy.
