Antonio Amodeo, MD, (M), is a Cardiac Surgeon with thirty years of experience, Surgical Director of Heart Failure Unit at Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome a leading center in Europe in pediatric cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplantation and ventricular assisted devices. Director of the Guch Unit at Catholic University of Rome. In his clinical activity, he has performed thousands of congenital heart surgeries and implanted more than 80 pediatric VADs. He was the pioneer of the VAD program in Duchenne patients as destination therapy. He was the first that, successfully, implanted in human the Infant Jarvik pump.
His scientific activity is focused on:
– clinical aspects of VAD therapy,
– engineeristic models to simulate patient specific haemodynamic and VADs effects to develop new VADs
– animal testing on the use of cardiac stem cells with and without VADs
He was the principal investigator of two National Scientific Project (Ricerca finalizzata):
– “New Hydrodynamic model for Fontan circulation in Univentricular Hearts”
– “New Permanent artificial heart in congenital heart disease with end-stage heart failure”.
He won several Awards in congenital heart disease and he has more than 80 published papers in impacted peer review journals.
